Laura Shifflett joined the Student Disability Access Center in July 2023 and serves as an Accessibility Specialist.

Prior to returning to UVA, Ms. Shifflett worked for 25 years in the field of education as an Instructional Coach, Special Education Teacher, Reading Specialist, and Transition Specialist in high schools in the Charlottesville area. Before teaching, Ms. Shifflett worked for Special Olympics International in Washington, DC, where she created curriculum for and trained athletes internationally to serve in public speaking and leadership positions for the organization.

Ms. Shifflett earned her BA in Psychology from Marymount University in 1993, MA in Special Education and Transition Services from George Washington University in 1998, and Ed.S. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Virginia in 2011.
