Bio

Max Tankersley joined the Gordie Center in July 2023 as the APPLE Training Institute & Student-Athlete Mentor Program Manager.

Mr. Tankersley works with both programs to foster well-being among student-athletes with a focus on substance misuse prevention and social support networks.

Mr. Tankersley earned a Bachelor’s degree in psychology and drama from the University of Virginia, studying group facilitation and directing Shakespeare. His primary research interest in both fields was investigating how to empower students to lead inclusive spaces that promote physical and emotional wellness. He conducted that research on Grounds through a Distinguished Majors Thesis in Psychology with the Hoos Connected program and multiple research grants from the Miller Arts Scholars program.

Mr. Tankersley applies those skills in his Program Manager role through curriculum development, delivering trainings, and group facilitation across Grounds and athletic departments.
